Love Poems For Remembrance

When I first started this blog, my intention was just to express my love towards food and of course to keep track of what I had been preparing. Before I started this blog, I always forgets what dishes or desserts I had once prepared for Doink (whether it's successful or failure) and what more I never used to snap any photos of it to keep it for remembrance. After a while, that's when I felt that I should start blogging to keep track of it.

That's when everyone started feeling how lucky Doink was to have me as he can be tasting all the delicious yummy sinful food. Not really sure if it's lucky as I think I'm feeding him too much that he might be gaining some weight. *lol* And worse still is that I treat him as a guinea pig to try all the food that I experiment in the kitchen. Hehe... (Psst, some are seriously not edible) *giggle* So today I would like to say that I'm also a very lucky girl to have him as he had done a lot for me in everyway.

I think I had shared this with a few close friends of mine during those old days. These are poems he wrote to me back then when we were still in school dating. Oh, those days were really sweet and nice. Of course lots of tears and sadness as well. But those are inevitable and everyone will have to go through it. I guess that's what makes relationship so interesting and it somehow strengthens it each time we go through the obstacles we faced.

Anyway, just wanna blog about it for remembrance. Btw guys, please don't copy and give it to your girlfriend, wife, pretty chicks etc. If you can't write a poem, you don't have to. Time To Indulge

Chocolate cake is one of the most common desserts served at gatherings, parties, events etc. And most people just love this particular dessert including me of course. I'm such a chocolate lover but then i don't like chocolates with nuts, caramel, toffee... Oh, and I'm crazy over praline chocolates for some reason. *yummy*

Okok I guess I'm babbling too much about chocolates. Let me get back to what I'm suppose to blog about. Last month a relative had an open house at her place and I was wondering what I could made to bring over. I was trying to come up with something simple and nice as I had classes during the weekends and thus I don't have much of time to make something complicated. So I decided to make everybody's favourite cake - chocolate cake.

This is a simple moist chocolate cake which I had blog about before and shared the recipe with everyone. I guess sometime simple is better. Not going to share the process of making it as I had done it before so gonna share some pictures with you all.

As I have mentioned before, this moist chocolate cake is not that sinful and you can gorge down a few without worrying too much on your waistline.

I had removed the sides of the cake as it's usually dry and the taste is not that nice. I wouldn't want to serve the sides to the guests, do I? So wouldn't it be a waste to throw the scraps away?

After staring at the cake scraps for quite a while, I finally figured out what I can do to it. I'm going to make a special dessert for Doink. *my guinea pig*

I cut the scraps into square shape and put it at the bottom of the dessert bowl, put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, cut some strawberries and layer them at the side of it and finally break the cookies (which I had prepared earlier for a friend) and sprinkle it right at the top of the ice cream. And now it's time to get a spoon and start indulging. *yummy*

Btw, you don't really need to use the scraps to prepare this dessert. Any beautiful, delicious cakes will do. I'm just showing one of the ways not to waste your scraps.

I actually sort of got this idea from McDonalds Mcflurry. That had some kind of mudpie and berry thingie flurry last month and so then I thought to myself that I can make such desserts too and what more I can put tons of my favourite topping in it. Oh ya, I also do at times, put my cookie crumbs and milo serve with ice cream which taste excellently delicious too. *psst, that idea was also obtained from McDonalds new Move It Flurry* *lol*


Satisfying my cravings

Hmm... it's going to be December in another 8 hours. Time flies. The next moment is Christmas which is something I look forward to every year. I guess I just love everything about Christmas : the lights, decorations, food, ambience etc. And it will be best to have white Christmas too. Oh, how I wish I can have white Christmas again. Drinks And Desserts

Here is the second part of my blog about SOULed OUT. This place has quite a number of choices of desserts, cocktails, mocktails and other type of drinks. Their staff are ever ready to quench your thirst. So here I'm going to share with you the drinks and desserts we had. Not going to comment on the cocktails as I hardly drink liqueur and definitely not an expert in it.

This is the Dragonfly juice. It's their signnature juice : Fresh red dragon fruit, watermelon, strawberry puree, Monin lychee syrup, fresh lemon juice and garnished with a wedge of dragon fruit. Well, it's quite tasty and it's definitely something unique.

Those are the cocktails we had. Gosh, wasn't that a lot. I was laughing a bit much after the SOS shot. Geez, I don't think I can drink much anymore.

Anyway, here comes the best part of the meal - DESSERTS!!! How can anyone say no to sweet yummylicious dessert. Well, I definitely can't.

Pannacotta - Caramel topping

We had Pannacotta- Italian style cream mousse infused with vanilla beans. There are 2 choices of toppings which are the Caramel and Raspberry. Well, I personally like the Raspberry flavour. It's quite delicious and I actually quite like it. For those who are not sure what pannacotta is, it's actually literally means Cooked Cream in Italian. It's a very simple dessert to prepare but I never got the chance to try it yet as Doink never seem to show any interest in it.

And finally we had the Lava Cake. Warm moist chocolate cake in pralinesauce and cashew nuts, topped with Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream. It's definitely a great sinful delicious dessert. It's a must try in SOULed OUT if you like to indulge in some really good dessert. And don't forget, they serve it with Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream which goes really well with the cake.

Great Place For A Satisfying Meal

It's so difficult to accomodate everyone's likings nowadays and one does not know where to dine when you are going out in a group as everyone favours different kind of variety of food. That's why I notice that there are more restaurants coming up with menu which serves from western, chinese to Indian types of cuisine so that there are choices for everyone. Don't everyone just love choices? *psst... not for me as I'm a fickle minded person*

SOULed OUT Kuala Lumpur is one of the places that is a great place to dine with family, friends and even with your partner. This place serves great food, drinks with cosy, warm ambience. The professional service staff which are always with a smile will ensure that every diners have a unique and pleasurable dining experience.

Anyway, I'm going to share with you some of the food which I had tried at the place. For starters, we had 4 different types of salad. First is the Sakura Denbu Salad, a japanese salad. It's unique and interesting and I really like the taste of it. I guess that's because I'm crazy over Jap food.

Than we had the mango prawn salad. I didn't manage to try this particular salad. So not going to comment on it. But the dish looks goods isn't it.

Ceasar Salad with crispy crutons to give the crunchiness taste in the salad. A simple salad that's suitable for everyone's tastebuds.

And finally the summertime salad. The grilled prawn and fish is marinated with some unique spices which gives the flavour taste really delicious. Definitely not a typical salad which you will come across at any restaurant. I would say this is a salad which you gotta try if you would like something different.

Deep Fried Calamari. I guess it's a favourite to most people. Crispy and crunchy squid rings in a secret batter recipe. Doink would definitely love this dish a lot.

Than here comes my favourite food of all time. PIZZA!!! Yummy! We had Sake San pizza with toopings of salmon slivers, roe, cherry tomatoes, japanese mayonnaise, lolorosso and a hint of wasabi. This is a very unique style of pizza with fresh salmon serves on it. But I don't really fancy it as I still somehow prefer the old fashioned type of pizza with the usual toppings.

Next, is the beefed out pizza. This is a must order. Beef pepperoni, beef bacon,beef ribs….all beefed out! A delicious combination with amazing yummy taste on it. I think each and everyone of us love this pizza a lot. The taste of the beef taste so flavoursome.

Next up is our local cuisine. We had the Sang Har Mein. Wanton noodles with large freshwater prawns, deep fried anddoused with egg gravy. This is a delicious dish and I find it very tasty. Most places are not able to cook this dish well but I really have to put my hats off for SOULed OUT for being able to serve this dish at a satisfying level. But of course do not expect the standard to be the same as Green View Sang Har Mein at Petaling Jaya. And of course the price in Green View is double of what you will be paying at SOULed OUT. *lol*

Than is the Spicy Square Fried Noodles - Bean sheet noodles fried with chicken,prawns and bean sprouts. This is kinda similar to Char Kuew Teow. But here it's much more spicer and it's suppose to serve with a little bit of the peanut sauce. Uniquely special taste but definitely not my cup of tea. Hehe...

Here comes the North Indian cuisine. Gosht Colapuri -mutton cubes braised in black pepper,onions, fresh tomatoes and chilli. Delicious tasty mutton that one would ask for more especially to those mutton lovers out there. It's a great dish serve together with the capati.

Than the butter chicken - Boneless chicken cooked in a creamy,tangy butter sauce reminds me of the type of Indian food which I used to had in UK few years back ago. It's taste so sinfully delicious. Brought back so much memories the moment I had this dish. The rice serves together with it is so flavoursome.

And here comes the Western cuisine portion. Slow cooked to perfection surrounded by mashed potato and chunky vegetable. Can't guess what is it. It's Lamb Shank. The meat is soft and the sauce is flavoursome. However, I find the portion is a little too big and it's best to share. I always somehow feel that too much lamb is quite sickening.

Than it's the Jerk Style Snapper - Spicy snapper fillet coated with jerkspices served with mixed sautéed greens, chips and Creole sauce. The beautiful fish is cooked with the flavourful spices. Definitely one of my favourite. So juicy and delicious. Just can't get enough of it.

I can say that SOULed OUT is a place whereby they serve great food at a reasonable price. Oh ya, I forgot to mention, every night at about 10pm, the staff will perform a 2-3 minute dance just to entertain the crowd. Now that's really something unique. I Need More Fish!!!

I rarely cook fish as I'm not good at preparing them. So usually I don't experiment on fish dishes much. And if I ever wanted to have fish especially salmon, I would rather visit those good restaurant to savour it whereby I'm sort of sure that they will do a good job. I mean how wrong can a grill fish turn out.... *lol* Oh ya, I just love grill salmon especially those thick, moist, succulent meat. *drooling* And also not forgetting raw salmon. Just love Japanese food....

Salmon is a pretty expensive fish. But it's considered a healthy fish as it contains high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids. I just don't understand how fats can be healthy. *scratching head* Anyway, I went to the market with my mom and saw this piece of salmon which looks beautifully fresh. I was just asking about the price of the fish as I was interested in preparing salmon for Doink. Mom bought the fish straight away for me before I could even consider about whether I want to cook it or not. So I guess I had no choice.

I was excited in preparing it. So many different recipes were running through my brain. I wanted to prepare so many different kinds of dishes on salmon : quiche, pies, salmon with cream, fried salmon, salmon pasta etc.... Then I realise I better not try to be so adventurous and just prepare a simple salmon dish in case I screw the whole dish up and waste such a beautiful piece of fish.

So decided to just simple pan fry the fish after seasoning it with salt and pepper. When it was nearly done, squeeze some lemon juice over to it. Tadah, the dish is ready to be served. *yummy*

I serve the fish with rice. Now you must be wondering what are the black stuff on the rice. Those are seaweeds. I bought a packet of Korean seaweed from Jusco which costs about RM7+. Just add into your rice for better flavour. However, you need to add some water to your rice to add more moisture to it as I find it taste better if your rice is a little bit moist.

Now, this is a delicious full course meal. I think Doink and I really enjoy this dish a lot. Hmm... I guess cooking fish ain't that tough afterall. In fact it's pretty simple. Ok, next I'm going to try cooking some other type of flavour on the fish. Haha... But then I'm in dilemma whether I should cook the fish with lots of flavouring and taste or just a simple one whereby the fish can retain its natural flavour.

Kiwi and Peach Pavlova

It's pavlova again and it's one of Doink's favourite desserts. Anyway, it was his request so I'm of course excited to make this dessert for him again. The last round I made this was sometime in December 2007. Yeah, it's been a while. You can check out the recipe and blog here.


Whipped Egg Whites

I baked more meringue this round so that I can have some on its own. Preparing the meringue is not tough but it's time consuming. It takes about an hour plus just to bake the meringue. I made one big meringue while the remains I made into smaller ones. The smaller ones are crispy and it taste really good eating it by its own. It's like some crispy, extra light sweet biscuit.

As for the big meringue, it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The texture of the inner part of the meringue feels like marshmallows. So it gives a really nice texture while you are biting into it.

Of course, my pavlova always comes with custard. The custard gives some extra flavours to the pavlova. Top the custard on top of the meringue and then only lay the cream over it. Ooohh.... absolutely sinful.

I intended to make the same strawberry pavlova as I felt that it was amazing. The vibrant red colour really makes the whole dessert looks beautifully gorgeous and appetizing. Just makes one want to have it instantly... *drool* But unfortunately the strawberries were out of stock at that particular supermarket. And I was lazy to go hunting for strawberries at another place. So decided to try different types of food.


Kiwi and Peach Pavlova

In the end I chose kiwi and peach. And I have to say that these 2 delicious fruits goes really well with the meringue, custard and cream. Absolutely gorgeous. I also did try putting in mangoes but then the pictures turned out horrible as I do not know how to arrange the mangoes on the meringue. As for the taste of it, I somehow still prefer kiwi and peach.

I just love it when I managed to prepare yummy desserts and being able to savour it with Doink. Somehow still wish that I can be doing this as a career. Preparing food that brings joy to people. Just so amazing.

Trick Or Treat

Halloween... A day which is celebrated on 31st October whereby people dresses up in scary constumes like witches, ghosts and skeletons. But nowadays you will see people dressing up costumes from characters in movies and shows.

I never really celebrated Halloween but I somehow like going out on that night to see what people dresses up like. It's really funny to see how sporting these people are to be dressing up some weird constumes. I doubt I will ever be able to do so. *lol*

I was thinking of cooking something that day itself and I did ask Doink whether he would like me to cook. And guess what he says. He was asking me whether I will be preparing eyeballs soup, monkey brains or maybe bat stew.... Doesn't those dishes sound like a gourmet dishes? *ewww* But in the end I was being a lazy piggie and didn't cook for my Doink. We went out for McD... Yes, I know all of you are surprise how come a person like me who loves cooking will like Mcdonalds food. I just don't know why. Just enjoy dating with Doink there. *blush* But to be honest, I only like McD's breakfast and their chocotop ice cream. Yummy!!!

Pretzels

Anyway, just received some treats from Doink's friend. She bought a big packet of Treats for the little kids who lives nearby her place. And she gave some to us as well. There were these Halloween pretzels. It just tasted like the normal salty pretzels which you can buy in any major hypermarket. But these are special edition of pretzels as there are in the shape of Bats and Jacks. Don't they look cute?

Of course, treats without candies ain't treats at all. So let me introduce you some candies that I have. There is this Wonka Nerds candy. Inside the box are tons of tiny mini small sweet. When I say tiny, I really mean tiny. And I also have Starburst, Laffy Taffy and Tootsie Roll candy. I'm not sure how they taste like as I haven't try them yet.
